Santorum’s Sanitized America

“I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics a man’s reasoning powers are not above the monkey’s.”Mark Twain

Election year drama is full upon us with the stunning news that Rick Santorum* not only was the clear winner in the Iowa caucus with a commanding lead of 34 votes, he garnered 14% of the rabid right vote in that circus sideshow called the South Carolina primary. Aside from the obvious PR problem Mr. Santorum has concerning his unfortunate rectal issues, it’s frightening to think anyone would vote for this candidate. Santorum bases his entire campaign around the decimation of the tenuous hold women have governing their own bodies and the destruction of the modest gains made toward LGBT rights in this country. These issues should make him a pariah, but to social conservatives, he is a hero in the making.

It should come as no surprise, however; we as a nation are more than willing to obliterate any progress made in human dignity through legislation. America has, after all, established clear precedence in the denial of basic civil rights. To illustrate:

– In the 1920s the United States became the world center of eugenic activity. From 1907-1960 more than 100,000 innocent Americans were sterilized in more than 30 states…to purify the “race” of “lower grade” and “degenerate” groups…(source)

-Soon after the beginning of World War II, FDR ordered the round-up of 120,000 Americans of Japanese heritage to internment camps- officially called “relocation centers.” (source)

But, here is a solution so brilliant, I am confident the Santorum Sanitation Campaign Committee, in its on-going efforts to rid their candidate of both his unfortunate anal activities and those offending contraceptives, abortions, and degenerates (aka LGBT individuals) in America, might well embrace as a way to “bulk up” his campaign:

This proposes, and can’t you just see the Santorums of the world giving a resounding “huzzah” to the sheer insanity of this, that every woman of child bearing age in America be subject to genetic testing. If she is found to be carrying the “gay” gene, she undergoes immediate sterilization. If she refuses either the testing or sterilization procedure, she is sent to a “relocation center” for the duration of her child bearing years (there have to be internment camps we can resurrect; after all, there were 10 of them!). This will eliminate the need for those sinful contraceptives and abortions and remove any necessity to shore up our abysmal track record of equality for LGBT individuals since, given time, there will be no gay people left to voice any concerns anyway.
Actually, this plan takes care of the two pesky problems in one fell swoop that Santorum is promoting in his campaign; one being the sanctity of the womb and the other being his position on gay rights… there shouldn’t be any.

There may be some out there who think the likelihood of a proposal from the Santorum Campaign Committee for a final solution such as this goes just a little bit too far, even for them. To those with a conscience I say, “You’re right!” Not only that (and you can quote me on this), I vehemently say, “Rick Santorum; Get the Hell out of my womb!” Your religion and your politics should not dictate the choices I make with respect to my body. Furthermore, “Rick Santorum; Get the Hell out of my life!” My child…NO child…NO adult, gay or straight, should be considered a degenerate subject to life as a second class citizen because a “faith based” politician posits in all seriousness that, “If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery.”
But then again, Twain said it all… “in matters concerning religion and politics a man’s reasoning powers are not above the monkey’s.”
…And I’m just a mom who loves her son.
