Transgender Rights Bill Introduced in Illinois General Assembly

The Civil Rights Agenda (TCRA) is pleased to announce that Representative Kelly Cassidy has filed a bill in the Illinois House of Representatives that would amend the clause defining hate crimes in the Criminal Code of 1961 to include “gender identity, military status and immigration status.” The Civil Rights Agenda authored House Bill 4725, and are hoping for passage this year.

Cassidy says, “This amendment to the hate crimes bill will create a truly inclusive act that will give law enforcement the tools they need to protect victims who are targeted based on who they are.”

This bill is vital for the Trans community, the amount of crap that they have to go through is unbelievable! Transgender individuals face pervasive discrimination in every part of their lives, experiencing violence simply because of who they are.
