Signified and The Big Ceci are collaborating on a community food and media event; the first installment of a bigger and ongoing project entitled CULTIVATE: connecting communities through meals and media. This interactive screening-dinner-salon-experience is going to be Wednesday, June 20th, 7-9:30pm in Brooklyn.
SIGNIFIED is a web-based multi-platform documentary project that aims to increase visibility of queer identified individuals and organizations as well as create local, regional, and international networks for community organizing and resource sharing. The project is comprised of an ongoing web series of short video profiles, an online platform for educational resource exchange as well as an ongoing event series featuring the work of a diverse range of queer people and organizations.
They are halfway through the release of season 2 and CULTIVATE will premier an episode on the 718 Collective, a new Brooklyn-based band of chefs, artsists, musicians, activists and healers with a vision that includes community meals, classes & internships and urban agriculture.
The Big Ceci [CHey-CHee,”chickpea” in Italian] is a collectively run blog linking the pleasure of good food with a commitment to our communities and the planet as a key element of the world we want to help build.
This blog is a space where we can share knowledge, resources, and skills that preserve local food traditions, elevate our consciousness about what we eat and how we eat it, support and create our own alternatives to the unhealthy and destructive industrial food system, and indulge in the sensuality and wisdom of the culinary arts. The Big Ceci curates an inspiring collection of recipes, photographs, stories, articles, conversations, and other resources for those of us who are attuned to the connections between plate, planet, community, health, and culture.
