LGBTQ favs Saucy Monky – Seductive New Video and EP

After conquering Ireland and parts of the UK, Los Angeles based Saucy Monky return with a series of EPs certain to make an impact on the US. The recently released Trophy Girl Part 1 serves as a bridge between the band’s past material and their newer influences, sounding akin to Girl in a Coma and with the feminine force of Beth Ditto (The Gossip). The band is fueled by dual front women Cynthia Catania (vocals, guitars, keyboards) and Annmarie Cullen (vocals, guitars) and propelled by the rhythm section with Steve Giles on bass and Megan Jane on drums.

“Awkward,” the first single from Trophy Girl, kicks off with a sly guitar groove and syncopated drumbeat, accompanied by a seductive music video already gaining online popularity, particularly within the LGBTQ community. Directed, edited and produced by Ghostlight (twin filmmakers Dave and James Codeglia), the video premiered on the popular site and received abundant praise.

The long-standing bond between Catania and Cullen has had its share of ups and down; responsible for not only the bands 11 year career but also the group’s near breaking points. After bursting into the Top 40 AAA market with “Disco Ball (Boulevard Remix)” in 2005, Saucy Monky’s music was soon being heard everywhere from Nickelodeon’s iCarly to Blue Bloods and Alcatraz as well as films, including And Then Came Lola and Amexica. The band invaded Europe on tour and shared the stage with PJ Harvey, The Black Eyed Peas, P!nk, and Wilco. However, the eventual break up of Catania and Cullen as a couple threatened to break up the band as well. Realizing their friendship and musical partnership was too valuable to let slip away; the pair powered through with support from Giles and Jane and are now stronger than ever.
