Illinois Gender Advocates dissolves
by Kate Sosin
Illinois Gender Advocates (IGA), longtime the only transgender policy organization in the state, has voted to dissolve after months of declining membership.
The dissolution had been expected after IGA leadership announced in December that it was considering disbanding.
Tammy Jubi Dutcher, a former president of the organization, said in December that membership had declined significantly over the past few years.
“It’s just been one or two people actually doing anything,” said Dutcher. “It had gotten to the point where the only people showing up for the general membership meetings were the board members.”
On Feb. 10, IGA leadership released an email statement to members confirming the dissolution, which was approved Feb. 5.
